You’re Invited!

Welcome Hush Harbor Lab, an Atlanta based new play development, into the city’s  vibrant and ever evolving creative landscape! They are launching their inaugural season with Mia Kristin Smith’s Locked on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 7:00pm via Zoom.

New Orleans born, Mia Smith is an established actor, director and dramaturg in the Atlanta theatre community.  She holds an MFA from the New School of Drama in New York City, a BA with a concentration in Media Studies and Playwriting, and an AA in Theater Production. Her directing credits include Circle of Women, New African Grove, Rising Stage, Out of Box Theaters, and The Atlanta Black Theater Festival.  She has worn many hats in various new play development workshops, but this is her first as a playwright.

Locked is about SHE, a transperson, who wants to be freed of what controls them which might even be a part of themselves. Working through mental health, emotional health and societal expectations weighs on the question, SHE must face what has caused their displacement and how to move forward as a whole person. Along the way, she discovers and unites with her alters for a riveting awareness of self and selves. You know it’s over when…is it? Or will it ever be.

Hush Harbor Lab, founded in January of 2020, was created to provide a space for Black artists in Atlanta to explore and experiment with narratives that will eventually make their mark in both live performance and digital mediums. After realizing that so few artists of color had a development space that encouraged them to take risks, co-founders Addae Moon and Amina McIntyre decided to facilitate an environment that would encourage boundary breaking innovation.  “Our mission is to create a brave space for the development and production of new and innovative digital, live and multi-media performance work by Black Atlanta based artists.”  The Hush Harbor lab will be an encouraging and supportive space for dialogue, growth and nurturing the play in an environment where it is safe to fail forward.

Directed by Damian Lockhart. Dramaturgy by Jordan Ealey. Stage Managed by Dionna D. Davis.

Cast: Ava Davis, Jordan Demers, Terry Guest, Anterior Leverett, Trevor Perry, Skye Passmore, and Paris Crayton
