Hush Harbor Lab presents a workshop reading of Minka Wiltz' "Behind the Veil." A prequel to "Lifting the Veil," a short musical inspired by the work of Karcheik Alvarado-Sims, Wiltz explores, with story and music, historic Black Atlanta.

PLAY SUMMARY:

Livie Pearce has idolized Dr. W. E. B Dubois since she was a teen. She has modeled her entire life path after his down to the PhD she is pursuing on the Clark Atlanta University campus where he wrote three of his most important works. After the Doctoral committee shoots down her initial thesis and gives her one week to come up with another, she is faced with some harsh realities about Doctor DuBois and blindspots in her own life.

When she peeks behind the veil, it is the women closest to Dr. DuBois that begin to teach Livie the most important and painful lessons she will ever learn.
